Botulinum toxin (known as “Botox®”) is a leading injectable treatment for preventing and softening expression lines on the upper face, particularly forehead lines, frown lines and crow’s feet. By temporarily reducing the activity of the muscles that create these lines, it smooths the features and gives a more rested appearance while keeping your expressions natural. At Maison Tóā in Lausanne, every treatment is tailored following a personalised medical assessment, to ensure a harmonious result suited to your face.

What is botulinum toxin (Botox®)?
Botulinum toxin is an injectable that temporarily blocks the signal between nerve and muscle, reducing the contractions that cause expression lines. It smooths the forehead, frown lines and crow’s feet, softens the gaze and helps prevent lines from setting in, naturally and reversibly, without freezing your expression.
Goal
To soften expression lines on the upper face and prevent them from deepening, while keeping the face natural and expressive.
How it works
Injected into the muscle with a fine needle, botulinum toxin blocks the signal at the nerve ending responsible for muscle contraction. The muscle relaxes and dynamic lines gradually fade.
Active ingredient
Botox® is based on botulinum toxin type A, a well-established substance widely used in aesthetic medicine. Injected in very small amounts into targeted muscles, it temporarily reduces their activity to smooth the features while preserving natural expressions.
Differences from other injectables
Unlike hyaluronic acid or biostimulators, which restore volume or stimulate collagen, botulinum toxin acts only on muscle contraction and does not change volume. It is often combined with other injectables as part of a global facial approach.
Indications and treatment areas
Botulinum toxin is suited to people who wish to soften expression lines on the upper face or prevent them from setting in. The indication and dosage are determined during a personalised medical assessment.
Main indications
Forehead lines, frown lines (glabella), lips and crow’s feet.
Secondary indications
Migraines, cervical dystonia and hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating of the underarms, hands or feet).
Treatment areas
The forehead, the glabella (between the eyebrows) and the eye contour (crow’s feet).
Specific areas
The lower face and neck (platysmal bands), the jaw (bruxism), the gummy smile.
Limitations
Botulinum toxin does not add volume and does not correct static lines visible at rest, which are better treated with hyaluronic acid or a biostimulator.
How does the session work?
The treatment is preceded by a medical consultation, then carried out at our clinic in Lausanne.
1 The consultation
The consultation is used to assess your muscle dynamics, your lines and your expectations, and then to tailor the areas and the number of units of botulinum toxin injected. Each protocol is adapted to your anatomy for a natural result.
Read more2 The treatment

After the skin is cleansed and disinfected, the doctor injects botulinum toxin into the targeted muscles using a fine needle. The treatment causes little discomfort and requires no prior anaesthesia.
Read more3 Follow-up

You can return to your normal activities immediately. We recommend not massaging the area for 4 hours and avoiding intense exercise, saunas and steam rooms for 24 hours. Mild redness, swelling or small temporary bruises may appear. More rarely, a slight asymmetry of the eyebrows may occur; this can easily be corrected with a small touch-up to the forehead at the 2-week follow-up.

The effect of botulinum toxin develops gradually after the session.
BEFORE / AFTER
First results
The first effects appear within 3 to 5 days, with the optimal result at around 10 to 14 days.
Stabilisation
The face looks smoother and more rested, with no loss of expression when the dosage is right.
Duration
The effect begins to wear off after 4 to 6 months. Botox® can then be repeated.
Maintenance
Repeating the treatment every 4 to 6 months maintains the result (twice-yearly maintenance); some patients space out their sessions over time.
Variability
Duration and intensity vary depending on the area, muscle strength and metabolism. As with any aesthetic treatment, results may vary from person to person.
Contraindications and side effects

Frequently asked questions
Does Botox freeze the face?
No, not when the dosage is right: the aim is to soften lines while keeping a natural expression. Baby Botox, a Maison Tóā speciality, is ideal for this natural look. By injecting only 40 units on the upper face, compared with 50 units for classic Botox, lines are softened while preserving facial expressions and mobility. The result is subtler, fresher and more natural.
How long do the effects of Botox last?
The effect begins to wear off after four to six months, and the treatment can then be repeated.
When will I see results?
The first effects appear within 3 to 5 days, with the optimal result at around 10 to 14 days.
Is the treatment painful?
It causes little discomfort and requires no prior anaesthesia.
Which areas can be treated with Botox?
Mainly the forehead, the glabella (frown lines) and crow’s feet; there are other indications too (bruxism, gummy smile, hyperhidrosis).
Does botulinum toxin have medical uses?
Yes, for migraines, cervical dystonia and hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating).
Can I have it during pregnancy or breastfeeding?
Botulinum toxin is not recommended during pregnancy; breastfeeding is not a contraindication.
What is Baby Botox?
A lighter dosage for a very natural, discreet effect.
