Needle sclerotherapy
Telangiectasias are small blood vessels located just below the surface of the skin. Their color varies from red to purple. Their origin is mainly genetic.
How does the treatment work?
Needle sclerotherapy consists of injecting an atrophying substance into these small telangiectasias. This substance will close the vessels and thus destroy them.
The treatment is performed in our clinic in Lausanne, Switzerland.
For whom is the treatment indicated?
This treatment is indicated for anyone who has superficial telangiectasias with a diameter of less than 1mm.
For larger vessels, an endovascular treatment using ultrasound foam therapy performed by an angiologist is the reference treatment.
What part of the body can be treated?
Although injections can be performed on the entire body, the most common areas treated are the legs, specifically around the thigh, below the knee and around the ankles, where telangiectasias are most common.
Telangiectasias of the face, which are even smaller in size, are treated with vascular laser. To know more about the treatment
What results can be expected after one session?
Generally, one or two sessions are sufficient to remove these small superficial blood vessels. To optimize the result, it is strongly recommended to wear class II compression stockings for 4 weeks.
For an optimal result, a vascular laser can be proposed in a second time. This will allow the destruction of even smaller vessels not treated by needle sclerotherapy.
The final result is evaluated after 6 weeks. For this reason, it is advisable to always respect this time frame if a second session is planned.
Over time, new small telangiectasias recanalize, which is why it is common for telangiectasia sufferers to need new injections every year.
How does the procedure work?
A very fine needle is inserted directly into the telangiectasia and a sclerosing fluid is injected. The liquid replaces the blood and the vein wall reacts and hardens. The injection volume is usually very small and the number of injections varies according to the size of the telangiectasia. One to two centimeters of spacing per injection is required to cover the entire apparent length of the blood vessel.
Needle sclerotherapy is performed in Lausanne by one of our dermatologists. The procedure lasts between 15 and 45 minutes.
The price of sclerotherapy starts at 200 Swiss francs.
Does it hurt?
At Maison Tóā, we use only the highest quality equipment. For needle sclerotherapy, we use the finest needles on the market, making the injection painless.
What are the after effects of the treatment?
It is recommended to wear a class II compression stocking for 4 weeks. Bruising and sensitivity of the vein may be felt a few days after the session.
Are there any contra-indications?
Sclerotherapy is contraindicated in cases of pregnancy and breastfeeding, personal history of phlebitis or known allergy to the sclerosing agent.
