Luminotherapy – Light Therapy for Skin Health
Light therapy, the light that solves everything.
How does the treatment work?
Light therapy is a gentle medical technology that uses LEDs or Light Emitting Diodes for a gentle and effective treatment of the skin.
Unlike lasers, which use a hot wavelength necessary to destroy their target, LEDs use a cold and painless light, which will stimulate the skin in different ways. There are, in fact, different colors of light beams that will each have a more or less deep penetration rate, thus allowing a targeted action for various skin problems.
The blue light will have, by its superficial absorption, a detoxifying and antibacterial action used mainly in the treatment of acne and rosacea.
Red light, the most commonly used wavelength, has different actions due to its deep absorption: it stimulates fibroblasts to produce collagen and elastin, which has a favorable effect on skin renewal, improving skin texture and scars. It has an effective anti-inflammatory action in the treatment of acne and rosacea. Finally, this wavelength also stimulates the hair follicles to return to the growth phase. It is therefore used for the treatment of hair loss.
For whom is the treatment indicated?
LED phototherapy as an anti-acne treatment
Propionibacterium acnes is one of the bacteria normally found on the skin. But when it starts to proliferate in the follicles, which is one of the key factors in acne, it causes a strong inflammatory reaction, which leads to the typical acne pimples. However, this bacterium has a weak link: blue light. Indeed, blue light, which corresponds to a visible wavelength between 400 and 420 nm, will stimulate the bacteria to produce toxic free radicals for itself, which will lead it to self-destruct, all without harming the skin.
Acting deeper in the dermis, the red light will shrink the sebaceous glands and thus reduce the production of sebum, another key factor in acne.
The anti-acne treatment with blue and red light is a completely natural and painless treatment that can be performed on all skin types.
The first results are usually visible after the second session. The once-a-week treatment lasts an average of two months, followed by a once-a-month treatment until the acne disappears.
LED phototherapy as a treatment for rosacea
Just as with hormonal acne, rosacea can be improved with blue and red light.
Here again we recommend a course of 6 sessions once a week.
Exposure to red light reduces the erythrosis (the diffuse redness of the face) after only 3 sessions. Acne rosacea will start to diminish after the 5th-6th session. For an optimal result over time, we recommend maintaining sessions once a month.
LED phototherapy as a treatment for scars and stretch marks
Exposure to red light stimulates your skin’s layers to produce more collagen, a fibrous protein that gives the skin shape and firmness. As collagen is formed, scars fade. By promoting skin cell renewal, it improves the appearance of the skin by repairing scars.
LED phototherapy as a treatment for hair loss
LED lamp photomodulation stimulates blood microcirculation and oxygen supply to the hair roots, revitalizing the follicles to restore hair strength and health.
The anti-inflammatory action is also very interesting since it reduces sebum production and decreases hyperkeratosis.
Thus, the quality of the hair improves significantly: better density, more regrowth, slower hair loss, protection against oxidizing agents.
It is necessary to consider about 10 sessions to observe a stop in hair loss. The quality of the hair improves as time goes by. Maintenance sessions are recommended to maintain the results.
PRP (platelet-rich plasma) associated with the LED lamp represents the most complete solution to date for the stimulation of the hair growth process: ideally, a PRP session should be directly followed by a session of photomodulation by LED lamp (red lamp).
How does the session work?
On a thoroughly cleansed skin, panels equipped with diodes are placed over the areas to be treated. The light emitted acts on the secretion of serotonin, which will give you an immediate feeling of well-being and even make you sleepy during the 30-minute session.
The light therapy session takes place in our specialized clinic in Lausanne, Switzerland. The price of a light therapy session is 150 Swiss francs
Does it hurt?
This treatment is gentle and non-invasive.
What are the after effects of the treatment?
After an LED session, our patients do not suffer from any side effects and no social eviction.
Are there any contraindications?
There are very few contraindications such as photo-allergic patients. If you suffer from epilepsy, inform your doctor so that the pulsed mode of your LED can be removed. The face of a pregnant woman can be treated without risk.
