A lip flip is a popular procedure that gives your lips a fuller appearance without increasing their volume. It’s a non-surgical procedure that gives your lips a fuller appearance by injecting botulinum toxin into the corners of your mouth (corners of the mouth) and the edges of your lips (vermilion border).
Botulinum toxin relaxes the muscles around your upper lip, causing your lip to “turn” upwards a little (eversion) and appear larger than normal.
What’s the difference between a lip flip and conventional lip filler injections?
Lip flip and filler injections are both procedures that give your lips a fuller appearance.
Lip fillers are injected into the lips using hyaluronic acid (HA). Your lips appear fuller immediately after the procedure.
During a lip flip procedure, your doctor injects botulinum toxin into certain parts of your upper lip. After a week or so, the injections give your lips a fuller appearance, without adding volume.
Lip flip is generally more natural than lip filling.

A lip flip is a personal decision.
To consider a lip flip, you must:

- Have realistic expectations.
- Not have an active oral infection, including mouth ulcers or cold sores.
Lip flip is recommended for people who want to discreetly increase lip volume without adding bulk.
It is also often recommended for more mature women. As you age, your lips may become smaller or thinner, the philtrum (the furrow between the upper lip and the septum) may lengthen and flatten, and the distance between the corners of your mouth (intercommissural distance) may increase. Botulinum toxin relaxes the muscles, and in addition to making the lips naturally fuller, will have the potential to diminish wrinkles above the upper lip (the famous “bar code”).
