How does the treatment work?
Sculptra® is a product that acts as a biorevitalizer for your skin on the face. Sculptra® is composed of L-polylactic acid (PLLA) and sodium carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC). PLLA will stimulate the fibroblasts responsible for the production of collagen. These 2 components are naturally metabolized by the body. The main goal is to treat skin aging while ensuring a filling of volume deficits. Collagen is necessary to our tissues, it is the main constituent of the skin and is responsible for the firmness and elasticity of the skin that we lose with age. We lose about 1% of collagen per year.
What part of the body can be treated?
Sculptra® is injected into the face to improve volume loss in the following areas
- cheeks
- Pre-auricular area
- temples
- the oval of the face
What results can be expected after a session?
The result of the Sculptra® injection is not immediate. However, the effects of the treatment begin to appear after 5 weeks, and will continue to improve in the following weeks. The skin will gradually become firmer, and may sometimes require a second or third treatment depending on the skin type. Unlike other injectable products whose effect lasts only a few months, the benefits of Sculptra® can last up to 2 1/2 years.
What happens during the session?
After removing makeup and disinfecting the face, the doctor injects the Sculptra reconstituted with injectable NaCl and local anesthesia. The injection is done with a cannula through one or two small holes. The botulinum toxin injection is performed in our clinic in Lausanne, Switzerland.
Does it hurt?
The treatment is not painful and does not require any anesthesia.
What are the after effects of the treatment?
After the injection, the volume injected gives a healthy glow for two to three days. A few days after the injection, the water and the remains of the components are resorbed to leave only the Sculptra. It is necessary to massage the face to activate the product, as recommended by your doctor. This will last for 5 days. Sports, sun exposure, saunas and hammams should be avoided for 24 hours. Redness and slight swelling may appear after the injections, but will disappear within 24 hours. Bruises disappear within 3-6 days after the injection and can be covered by a foundation the day after the treatment. Please note that our Lausanne-based cosmetic surgery center also performs other injection-based treatments.
Are there any contraindications?
Sculptra® is not recommended for pregnant or breastfeeding women.
